AZANIA IS COMING, AND WE WANT TO CELEBRATE WITH YOU

On 10 September 2026, Operation Khataza releases their second single, Azania: a hip-swaying Maskandi-Rock anthem of gritty electric riffs, deep grooves and memorable melodies. Coming in at just over three minutes, it packs in a drum solo, call-and-response percussion and plenty of dance breaks. “Azania” as a term was adopted by Pan-Africanists during the anti-apartheid struggle as an anti-colonial name, and in the song it becomes a metaphor for the soil itself and our relationship to it. To celebrate, the Cape Town collective takes over the Pink Room at Gorgeous George Hotel for one night only, joined by fellow Cape Town outfit Ashé. Expect a night of musical fusions from across the continent, improvisation, dance and celebration.

ASHÉ

Ashé are a Cape Town-based band that plays original music. Their sound combines Goema and Cape Jazz with Highlife, Cuban Funk and Afro-dub grooves. Live shows are upbeat affairs with improvs and spontaneous magic combined with strong original compositions. Ashé have recorded their first EP at Concept Records in August 2026. The band comprises Brandon “B-rae” Ruiters on trumpet, Wayde Hardy on percussion, DanSoultraveller on guitar and Adam Selikowitz on bass.

OPERATION KHATAZA

Operation Khataza is a dynamic eight-piece band from Cape Town, operating under the slogan “Sonic Liberation Across Alkebulan.” Led by the enigmatic uFarrah Khataza, their music fuses Zamrock, SA jazz, kwaito, soukous, highlife, R&B, blues and rock into a sound that is as idealistic as it is celebratory: a weapon of love and liberation that re-conscientises every room it enters. Since forming in 2023, the band has built its reputation the old-fashioned way: sweaty mosh pits across Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town; a ConcertsSA-funded national tour; and stages shared with acclaimed outfit The Brother Moves On. They’re now bringing that same energy to their debut album, Vuka, out later this year.
