Cape Town Chamber Choir presents Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem.

Uniquely presented in a rarely heard piano four-hands arrangement, Brahms’ iconic Ein Deutsches Requiem will be performed in the heart of Cape Town at the historic St Martini German Lutheran Church, conducted by Antoinette Huyssen.

St Martini German Lutheran Church, established 165 years ago by German immigrants, is a fitting setting for Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem, a work that sets passages from Martin Luther’s German Bible that bring comfort to those who are grieving, instead of employing the liturgical parts of the traditional Requiem Mass.

Featuring acclaimed pianists Kate Watson and Seung-Ree Lee, together with singers Clara Hugo (soprano) and Conroy Scott (baritone), this promises to be a deeply moving and memorable musical experience.

Kate Watson is an award-winning pianist. She won the 2025 Johann Vos Piano Competition (Open Category) and has performed at the Stellenbosch International Piano Symposium, the University of Pretoria Mozart Festival, and the Oxford Piano Festival. Alongside her performance career, Kate is an accomplished collaborative pianist and educator, currently teaching piano and flute at St John’s College, Johannesburg. We are thrilled to perform with her as she visits Cape Town in August!

Seung-Ree Lee is a South Korean-born pianist based in Cape Town who holds bachelor’s, honours and master’s degrees in Piano Performance cum laude from Stellenbosch University. She was a Judith Neilson Young Artist pianist with Cape Town Opera, performing in productions including Tosca, Lucia di Lammermoor, Gianni Schicchi & Suor Angelica, Orpheus McAdoo and My Fair Lady. As one half of Novo Duo, she received a 2026 National Arts Festival Bronze Ovation Award for artistic excellence.

French-born Clara Hugo is one of South Africa’s leading young sopranos. Recent appearances include Erwartung with Cape Town Opera, as well as recital performances in Paris, Milan and South Africa. Conroy Scott is a Cape Town-based baritone who performs extensively in operas and concerts. His recent roles include Escamillo in Carmen with Cape Town Opera, alongside performances in oratorio and musical theatre.
