ABOUT THE BAND

Crimson House is a genre-bending, high-octane band that has carved out a legendary place in South Africa’s music scene with their infectious blend of gypsy blues, cabaret rock, and Afro-folk fusion. Known for their wild live shows, theatrical flair, and soul-stirring musicianship, Crimson House delivers more than just music — they deliver a full-blown experience.

Formed in 2010 by Riaan Smit, the enigmatic frontman and songwriter, Crimson House began as a gritty blues project in the dusty corners of Namibia before evolving into a full-force musical spectacle based in Cape Town. Over the years, the band has grown into a collaborative powerhouse, incorporating saxophones, violins, accordions, and explosive rhythm sections into their sound, while always keeping storytelling and raw human emotion at the heart of their performances.

Their style draws influence from the likes of Tom Waits, Gogol Bordello, and Manu Chao, creating a unique cocktail of sound that moves from swampy delta blues to Balkan brass-fueled dance breakdowns — all laced with a sense of dark humour, poetic reflection, and foot-stomping joy.

Crimson House has played countless festivals and venues across Southern Africa, sharing stages with some of the continent’s finest, and earning a reputation as one of the most electrifying live acts around. Their discography includes standout albums like Smoke, Dust & Whiskey, Come Alive, and Bounceology, each showcasing their genre-defying creativity and lyrical depth.

With a rotating lineup of world-class musicians and an unwavering commitment to musical freedom, Crimson House continues to push boundaries and ignite dance floors, reminding audiences that music is not just heard — it’s felt, lived, and celebrated.

Crimson House isn’t just a band. It’s a movement. A celebration of life in all its colour, chaos, and beauty.
