Silwer Kaartjie | Silver Ticket
The Silver Ticket is your golden ticket – a passport giving you four days’ full access to one of South Africa’s biggest film festivals.
The 14th kykNET Silwerskerm Festival, taking place from 19 to 22 August 2026 at The Bay Hotel in Camps Bay, Cape Town, promises to be another five-star event. There are premieres of three new Afrikaans feature films as well as short films by established and emerging filmmakers. The programme also boasts five brand-new short documentaries that capture true South African stories spectacularly. Also on the programme are exclusive sneak peeks of new programmes to be broadcast on DStv channels, and workshops and panel discussions where experts will share their knowledge.
To crown it all, the Silwerskerm Film and TV Awards will be presented on the Saturday. This glitzy Saturday evening gala event, attended by all the stars, will honour not only the best achievements at this year’s Silwerskerm Festival, but also the best in Afrikaans television of the past year. And this will be followed by a swinging after-party at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).
The guests of honour at the kykNET Silwerskermfees each year are the people who worked in front of and behind the cameras on the films in the festival programme. This year is no different, and each of them receives an invitation to the festival.
But what if you are not part of this group and had no hand in creating content on the festival programme? No problem. This year, a special all-access ticket is on sale for all those involved in the film and TV industry who wish to attend the festival, as well as for members of the public: the Silwer Kaartjie.
How does it work?
A Silver Ticket, available for R1 000, gives you full access to the whole festival. This includes the post-awards party at the CTICC – a ticket that on its own costs R400. So, you can be part of this major event on the South African entertainment calendar from Wednesday morning to Saturday evening.
The programme for this year’s kykNET Silwerskerm Festival will be announced on 19 June. Both invitees and Silver Ticket holders will receive their vouchers on 19 June and will then have the opportunity to book first for everything on the festival programme over the weekend (of 20 and 21 June). On 22 June, sales open to the public, who will then be able to buy tickets for any screenings or sessions that are not yet full.
With a Silver Ticket, you can book for any of the following:
• 3 premieres of new Afrikaans feature films
• 6 short films by emerging filmmakers
• 4 short films by established filmmakers
• 5 short documentaries
• 1 feature-length documentary
• 2 previews of new drama series
