Morgan State University Choir at St. George’s Cathedral

Celebrated conductor Dr. Eric Conway brings his award-winning Morgan State University Choir to Cape Town, accompanied by the Tygerberg City Choir under the direction of Peter Roux.

The performance will feature a diverse repertoire including Gospel, Choral Standards, Hymns, African-American Spirituals, Folk Songs, South African music, works by Living Composers, and more.

Doors open 30 minutes prior to the performance start time.

About the Morgan State University Choir:
The Morgan State University (MSU) Choir is one of the nation’s most prestigious university choral ensembles. While classical, gospel, and contemporary popular music comprise their critically acclaimed repertoire, they are renowned for preserving spiritual heritage in their performances.

The choir has performed with major symphony orchestras including The Philadelphia Orchestra, Chicago Symphony, New York Philharmonic, and the National Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Eric Conway has led the choir since 2004, with notable performances including a service honoring Rosa Parks, a White House concert with Aretha Franklin, and international tours to Europe, Africa, and Asia.

About Dr. Eric Conway:
Dr. Eric Conway has served as Director of the Morgan State University Choir and chair of the Fine and Performing Arts Department for nearly 20 years. A graduate of Johns Hopkins University’s Peabody Conservatory, he has performed internationally and collaborated with legendary artists. He holds degrees in Accounting and Business Management and was a Certified Public Accountant before dedicating himself to music.

Established in 1977, the Tygerberg City Choir consists of members from Cape Town’s Northern suburbs and beyond. They are recognized for their musical prowess, commitment to social responsibility, and dedication to nurturing talent in the choral music scene.
