About Music of the Dosini Clan and Johann Sebastian Bach

Classical Concerts in the heart of the City

Two icons meet on Friday, 11 September, to celebrate music in the heart of the city, as African musical heritage comes together with European classical tradition for one special evening at St George’s Cathedral.

Dizu Plaatjies – celebrated South African Xhosa musician, founder of Amampondo, and leader of Ibuyambo, brings the music from his Dosini clan dating back to the 18th century- the same era of Johann Sebastian Bach which will be performed by renowned viola/violinist and vocalist Gareth Lubbe for one special evening.

The concert is the launch of the Fundraising Campaign for the 2027 Unplugged Series which takes place from January to April 2027 bringing music to the heart of the city in the iconic and historical surroundings of St George’s Cathedral.

Entrance is free, but donations at the door are encouraged – as you can afford- and all contributions will go towards the artists fees for the 2027 series. This way you can help keep these concerts available for all. You can also reserve your attendance and make a donation in advance here via Quicket.

There will be a coffee truck on site for refreshments before/ after the concert courtesy of Laverne’s @YourLocalBrew

The St George’s Unplugged was established with two primary objectives:

  • To connect individuals to the historic and spiritual surroundings of St George’s Cathedral, offering an in-depth experience through music, with immediate support being raised through donations collected at the door to assist with maintenance and repairs.

  • To connect people living in and visiting Cape Town to the diverse and high-quality classical music industry present throughout the year.

In 2027, the series hopes to present 30 concerts running every Tuesday and Thursday at 1:15 p.m. from 13 January to 29 April, (excluding two weeks over Easter)

  • To enable this important showcase, and keep the entrance free for all, sponsorship is required to cover artist’s fees and support those who would not otherwise be able to perform. The donations are managed through the Kramer Concert Series Jubilee Trust Registration No. IT 2416/2003 and
  • Public Benefit Organisation (No: 930010115)
