The Neues Lied Competition for Art Song Duos was established in 2022. This year marks the fifth instalment of the competition, which invites young singers and pianists from the University of Cape Town and Stellenbosch University to showcase their talent.

Participants must prepare a programme of several art songs in various languages, including:
– One German Lied
– One art song from the twentieth or twenty-first century
– One South African art song
– Two art songs of free choice

The competition consists of two rounds, with the final round featuring the best duos competing for R51,000 in prize money, sponsored by the Rupert Music Foundation.
