More about the Show:
Pet-Friendly, a new piece of ‘stand-up commentary’ by Mike van Graan, will premiere in April 2026 at various venues in Cape Town, whereafter it will tour around the province, country and even abroad. Featuring Marty Kintu, Pet-Friendly’s tag line is ‘off-the-leash humour featuring pets, puns and peeves’. It is a solo show with themes that will resonate with pet owners, while also creatively deploying pets as metaphors and springboards for contemporary social commentary.

More about the Artists:
Recent works by Mike van Graan include The Good White (the 2025 Market Theatre/Suidoosterfees production was nominated in the Best New Script category by the Naledi Theatre Awards), To Life, With Love, the critically acclaimed solo drama featuring John Maytham and the multi-sketch satire My Fellow South Africans performed by the talented Kim Blanche Adonis who won various awards for her performance and which toured the country over three years!

Marty Kintu, born in Uganda, graduated from the University of Cape Town (UCT) where he majored in drama and acting and has performed in a number of plays directed by luminaries such as Janice Honeyman, Clare Stopford and Mdu Kweyama. He recently performed in The Life and Times of Michael K directed by Lara Foot, and has previously performed in two plays by Van Graan, The New Abnormal directed by Rob van Vuuren and the trilogy, When Swallows Cry directed by Lesedi Job. Marty has also performed in a range of movies and television series and is a seasoned puppeteer.

‘I’m delighted to be working with Marty on Pet-Friendly,’ said Van Graan. ‘Audiences will be taken by his charm, his easy style and the playful way in which he brings different parts of this script to life.’
