Roots Grown Deep is a cross-continental ‘beyond genre’ musical and educational ensemble who spontaneously co-compose a soundscape known as Musical Ecology. On this date at The Commons Muizenberg near Cape Town, South Africa, Roots Grown Deep presents a truly world-class ensemble that is not to be missed:
Joel Karabo Elliott – voice, guitars, trombone, flute
Bonolo Nkoane – drums
NeAhtYah Zintle Mbuywaze – voice
Ntando Mbatha – bass
Naftali – voice
Dan Boshoff – guitar
Roots Grown Deep utilize their musical healing powers as a spiritual transportational vehicle and sound resonance chamber to support and reflect a wider family network of regenerative cultural arts, revillaging leaders, agroecology projects and Ancestral Intelligence weavers. In performance, the ensemble plays a rarified kind of participatory indigenous jazz with profound inflections of North America and Southern Africa, bringing listeners on a wide-ranging journey from stillness to celebration, from grief release to joy, from poetic prayer to anthemic unity.
“We are composed and guided by the relational forces of ecology, humanity and divinity. We are a life-art movement and mobile educational-healing node harmonizing the diverse voices of many disciplines, languages, cultures and personalities into a truthful, soul-illuminating sound. Our members are from numerous earthly tribes and cosmic origin, singing together in a plethora of languages, tones and personalities, and we love to explore the inner and outer sounds of this beautiful planet with you.” (Joel Karabo Elliott, co-founder)
