Join us on Friday, 3 July at Hollow Tree, Hout Bay for an intimate evening of world-class music.
Arrival is from 6:30pm, with the performance running from 7pm to 9pm, including an interval.
Renowned South African guitarist Steve Newman and distinguished percussionist and tabla maestro Nish Pillay come together in a powerful fusion of folk, world music, African, Latin, Indian and contemporary sounds.
Steve Newman, legendary guitarist and founding member of the highly acclaimed band Tananas, has been a pioneering force in the South African music scene for over five decades. Celebrated for his distinctive acoustic guitar style, rhythmic complexity and lyrical melodies, Steve has performed across Europe, North America and Asia, earning his place as one of South Africa’s most accomplished and versatile musicians.
Nish Pillay is known for his masterful tabla performances and his ability to blend South African and Indian musical traditions with modern innovation. His dynamic artistry has seen him perform alongside national treasure Steve Newman, as well as support three-time Grammy Award winner Ben Harper with the Jack Mantis Band.
Together, Steve and Nish create a mesmerising musical experience that bridges ancient traditions with modern expression, telling stories through rhythm, melody and deep musical connection.
Beyond performance, Nish is also involved in collaborative work with Prof. Eugene Skeef, former right-hand man of Steve Biko, on projects focused on decolonisation of the mind, social justice, cultural consciousness and transformation through music and the arts.
