About Suits & Sneakers presents: “The Most Valuable Skill” with Mark Sham (Cape Town edition)

Suits & Sneakers hosts several events each month in Cape Town, each featuring a different guest and theme. The idea is to create a space for ongoing learning that helps you broaden your thinking in a fast-changing world. This event will be hosted on the evening of Tuesday, 14 April, at The Tryst in Woodstock.

WHAT IS THIS EVENT ALL ABOUT?
For generations, the “contract” was simple: do well at school, get the right qualifications at university and you’ll be valuable to the market forever. It was a solid plan that worked for generations BUT we’ve reached a point where the world is moving faster than any certificate can keep up with. Today, relying on what you “learnt” is no longer enough to stay relevant in a reality that shifts every few months.

On Tuesday, 14 April, Mark Sham hosts a raw, unfiltered conversation about the mindset and mentality required to thrive when the old rules no longer apply. This is a deep dive into the internal software required to navigate a career and a life in the middle of constant chaos.

We’re going to unpack the difference between “Hard Skills” and what Mark calls “Core Skills.” These aren’t the “soft” afterthoughts we were told to figure out on our own. These are the baseline requirements for a modern human: the art of navigating complex relationships, and the grit to reinvent yourself on the fly.

Ultimately, this session is about who you need to become to remain relevant regardless of the circumstance or environment. If you want to thrive, you have to move beyond what you know and focus on how you show up. This is a philosophical look at building the internal manual that allows you to live a fulfilling, successful life no matter how much the world changes around you.

MORE ABOUT MARK SHAM
Mark Sham is the founder of Suits & Sneakers and a vocal advocate for the power of informal, self-directed learning. At 41, he’s the first to admit he’s still winging it, learning through trial, error, and a relentless curiosity about what it actually takes to stay relevant today.
