The Butterfly Effect is a 60-minute music and storytelling performance featuring Tanika Paschke-Moloi.
Blending songs from her upcoming EP with stories from her debut novel, Speak the Truth and Run, the show tells the story of a white orphan adopted by a Black family in Soweto shortly after South Africa’s first democratic elections.
Through music and narrative, the performance explores why we continue to feel, think, behave, and relate to one another along racial, class, and cultural divides long after the political dismantling of Apartheid.
The music invites audiences into their own reflection—gently rather than harshly, safely rather than defensively. The sound is luxurious and soulful like Norah Jones, dynamic and fearless like Nina Simone, and intimate and deeply human like Tracy Chapman.
The story resolves with both intellect and emotion satisfied, leaving audiences feeling held, connected, and inspired. The Butterfly Effect offers a glimpse of what it could feel like to be whole—and to be together.
