The Songmakers’ Guild is thrilled to launch Iconic, a new concert series celebrating masterpieces that have shaped the art song repertoire. One concert in the Guild’s yearly calendar will be dedicated to such iconic works, performed by some of South Africa’s finest artists.

The series begins with Franz Schubert’s timeless setting of Wilhelm Müller’s Winterreise, a turning point in the history of art song. Across its 24 songs, Schubert confronts his impending death through Müller’s wanderer – a desolate and deeply moving account of love, loss, and the search for life’s elusive meaning. Its haunting emotional rawness has captivated listeners since its inception.

Acclaimed baritone William Berger and pianist Esthea Kruger bring this powerful work to life in what promises to be an unmissable highlight in the Guild’s concert series.
