About Colour Theory for Colour Mixing with Ambra Art Studio

Red, blue, and yellow are not the primary colours!
Which is why you often get muddy results when you want to mix bright, vibrant colours. This workshop will teach you a framework for understanding colour mixing – one built around colour bias and the modern primaries.

Join this hands-on Workshop at Moosh Artspace on 23 May — perfect for beginners or anyone looking to build more confidence with color mixing.

We’ll learn:
– Why traditional colour theory muddies the water (pun intended)
– A beginner-friendly formula I’ve developed to help you predict whether your mixes will be bright or muddy — no more guesswork!
– Exercises to practice color matching to train your eye

For this workshop we’ll be using watercolour to practice colour mixing, but the theory you’ll learn will apply to other mediums, such as oil, acrylic, etc, as well. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to deepen your understanding of watercolour, this workshop is designed to demystify color and make it fun.

Location: Moosh Artspace
Date: 23 May, 13:00 – 16:00
What you need to bring: All materials (paper, paint, palettes and brushes) will be supplied. But if you have your own watercolour palette please bring it with so you can practice with it.
Spots are limited to 10, so book yours soon!

About your Facilitator:
Fair warning: Mareli Basson will talk about colour for as long as you let her. Ask anyone who’s seen her work – vibrant is the word that comes up most. But the thing she loves most isn’t the result. It’s the moment someone discovers what they can do with it.
Her watercolour workshops are an invitation into that discovery. Armed with a BA in Applied Design and years of collecting knowledge across mediums, she goes deep, and her students feel it. Several have already come back for more.
The medium is the doorway – accessible, playful, and just unpredictable enough to keep you honest. What’s on the other side looks different for everyone. Some find a new practice. Some find colour itself. Some just find an afternoon that feels like breathing.
No experience necessary. Curiosity is strongly encouraged. Nerdy tangents included at no extra cost.
