The Songmaker’s Guild launches the new concert season and the new phase of its existence by presenting its newly established committee to its loyal audiences with their first appearance on stage together. The Guild’s new Artistic Director, pianist José Dias, will be joined by sopranos Marina Erasmus and Paulina Malefane, his partners on the managing committee.
To celebrate their new roles in the Guild and their renewed commitment to performing and developing art song in South Africa, they will present a programme of their absolute favourite songs. They have lived with some of these songs for countless years, and others, which have been on their respective ‘bucket lists’ for performance, are now finally finding the perfect opportunity.
Audiences can expect some of the great classics and all-time favourite art songs, from Schubert to Le Roux Marais, to some unexpected rarities that carry deep personal connections, as well as songs ‘without words’, to be sung by a pianist’s fingers alone.
Doors open at 18:30.
