Something most people don’t realise: the reason watercolour feels frustrating at first isn’t about talent – it’s about not knowing how the medium works yet. Getting to know watercolour – the first workshop in this series at Moosh Art Space – is all about changing that.
Learn how watercolour truly behaves and how to use that to your advantage. This hands-on session covers essential techniques and brush skills, plus a dive into paint consistency so you can control your paint with confidence.
We’ll cover the following:
– Techniques: wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, drying brushing, layering, lifting, colour washes, fades, etc.
– Consistency: how to control water lighten colours using dilution instead of adding white.
– Texture techniques: using everyday items and materials to create beautiful texture
All levels welcome and materials included.
About your host
Mareli Basson is a jill-of-all-trades – software developer by day and artist-crafter in her spare time with a BA in Applied Design. As part of her degree she studied graphic design and photography but she’s also spent years collecting knowledge on various mediums and skills. Her first job was teaching high school students which led to her discovering a love of teaching and sharing knowledge. Combine this with a drive to encourage folks to pick up creative hobbies and you’ll find her often encouraging folks to try out watercolours for the first time.
